Chicken Training Workshop: Learning theory to strengthen working dog teams

Is that a…..Chicken?

Superfit Canine is always working to identify unique training opportunities to help working dog handlers improve their skills and ensure that K9 teams are ready when they are needed most. "Chicken camp" is not a new concept, but Sally's twist on this way of learning is designed to give detection dog handlers a leg up in transferring what they learn to immediately benefit their K9 training partnership.

Sally is a member of the Superfit Canine team, and we are proud to partner with her and Fully Involved K9 to bring this valuable course hosted by the Virginia Search and Rescue Council and sponsored in part by the Virginia Department of Emergency Management to the working dog community.

Chicken Photo.jpeg

The instructors take the students through the theory of learning, and immediately put the concepts to use with the chicken flock. Chickens are very literal and unforgiving, timing a little off – they will let you know! Push them a little hard – they will flap their wings and leave! Working closely with the instructors, the students master the skills and move straight into the four-legged world, translating the information just learned into meaningful techniques with their own working dog.

Lead Instructor and owner of Fully Involved K9, Sally Dickinson is a graduate of the Karen Pryor Professional dog training program and the University of Washington certificate program in Animal Behavior. This formal education combined with a lifetime of learning and working with animals has allowed Sally to have a unique perspective on animal behavior.
So, you have heard all the hype, now come and learn from practitioners who work in the field everyday with their own dogs, overcoming training obstacles and developing training routines to achieve rock solid behaviors.

Chicken Training Workshop: Learning Theory for K9 Teams
